now i don’t know what that means, but i could careless. this is the internet.
anyway, after reading the story serveral times, i looked more carefully at the last line. i can make out what is trying to be depicted of the us troops. are they wrong? i think not. i’ll admit, mistakes are costly in the time of war. but so are choices. its not that we don’t know what we are doing, but we are surprised about what we HAVE to do. war is horrible. there is nothing that comes to close to what war does to people and countries. everything is turned around and geared towards destruction rather then for a better living. propaganda does a good job of keeping the population informed on the right outcome of the war rather then the conflict of interest of the two battaling countries. well, with all this in the back, i just wanted to state that i felt this story was kind of one sided and now i’m going to write the other side…
imagine this:
so your around the age of 21. you just reached your birthday. this would seem like a joyful event for any person but not for you. why? the memory of your comrad, your best buddy, being hit by rounds is still fresh in your thoughts. its hard to think when rounds are coming by your head, whizzy past your ears. the sight of seeing your fellow troops being struck by hot peices of metal from exploding shells. yet this is everyday for you. you have to learn to deal with these sick events of war. you know what your doing there. there in this country that you’ve been sent to. that you’ve trained for. that you’ve learned about over the past few months of training.
so another day goes and you pull night shift on a street post. nothing hard, but there has been known insurgents in the area and dropping your guard isn’t going to keep you and your fellow army alive. the night is getting darker and your guard rises to meet the needs of the situation for atlas, a car is coming!
what? do they not see the signs? the lights? the cries from the guards? this car is coming closer to the post! why do they insist on getting closer? can this be an attack? i wouldn’t doubt it. perhaps there is a bomb in the vechile and it is drawing itself near the troops to cause more harm. perhaps a rain of fire will engluf me and my friends from the car…i don’t know. i’m scared. i fear for my life and those around me. my leader is quick. “fire warning shots!” he yells and we do as ordered. short burst of rounds fly into the once silent night. the locals know to stop at a post during night. perhaps these people aren’t from around here, or perhaps these people have a different cause. the car isn’t stopping! its coming closer! “tango october 5!” my platoon leader yells this with confidence and with all of our safety in mind. upon hearing those words, my training kicks into play. the warning shots are done. now i am more concered about taking out the threat that is before us. i quickly upload a short flow of 5 rounds that are meet by my platoon’s other 5 round burst and all rounds are quickly connected at the point of center mass of the front windshield. the car, after being rittled by rounds, slowly comes to a hault. screams, i can hear screams. why? why are their screams coming from this car? oh please don’t tell me that this wasn’t the enemy! we fired SEVERAL warning shots, severeal!! oh no! my team has now secured the car and its just kids…just kids. two adults who appear to be the parents are dead. shot and killed. as my team clears the area and assets the damage done, they begin to move out the children. i can’t follow them, i am told to stay put and hold down the area.
i get in position and aim my weapon down range and i wait. i wait to find out what i did. what i will have to live for with the rest of my life. damn. they were just kids! why didn’t they stop!! what were they thinking? God…this is war. this is war. and this is just another night….
the end.
yea, not as great as the other side, but this is just from personal experience and from tales. well i just had to get that off my chest. if you got input, please, leave it. but i ask one thing. be honest and be smart. and if you don’t and want to play, we’ll play.
holla!
