It has come to my attention that my navigation, although as basic as it can be, isn’t what people want to see. I usually don’t care, but I plan on chaning it. An article on A List Apart titled Where Am I? brought into light a lot of points that I didn’t see when I was making my navigation for the top menu.

The part that I want to really focus on is the fact that the page you are currently on is some how different then the others, but I want to keep the link still open, vice what they say about deactivating the link. I can’t stand when I have to press a button to refresh a page rather then just mouse movement, which is what I mainly use when reading and surfing.

The images below are just a render of what I think I want to do. I don’t know how exactly I plan on doing this because I just wanted to keep my javascript usage to a minimum. Now with jQuery running things with the slider option; via Interface, I have small buffer for how much bandwidth my website uses. I plan on filling this buffer with Thickbox and a few other things that work with jQuery.

Navigation 1

I don’t want to add the javascript from Nifty Corners to get the effect done, but I am running short of options and styles. I want it to be easy to align the text with the changing element behind it so I turned it into a list rather then just text inline. The ending effect should come close to something like this…

Navigation 2

When I am done, of course you’ll notice it and please comment on how you think it should look, and when I am done, on how it does look. Thank you!
