Well I got my final blood test result today and you’ll be happy to know that I don’t have syphilis but you guys already knew that right? No, it wasn’t the test results that surprised me this week, but the fact that we, as in Hiromi and I are already engaged.

The reason behind my obsession with this young lady is because she has a stylish way of being old school and new school at the same time. This led me to believe she was a magician’s aid at one point in her life or perhaps a magician. From the years of watching FOX TV with all its great magician shows I knew that she was going to be full of surprises. Her greatest trick was on Tuesday when she said we were engaged.

“Wait a second Luna; you haven’t bought the ring have you?”

That’s right, I haven’t. Why? No, it’s not because I’m lazy or anything, but I’m a friggin’ knucklehead when it comes to money. Actually, I can save money better now then I could before but I still sometimes have second doubts about big purchases. So when I was about to drop $xxxx amount on a platinum diamond ring, I had to ruin the surprise a bit by informing her that I was going to make a huge purchase in the next few months ( I said few, but it was really a week ). She didn’t like the idea of buying a ring and then wearing it for only a few months and after a few more sentences, she had me convinced that purchasing an engagement ring wasn’t in our best interest.

I somehow think her friends had a small influence behind this idea because I remember awhile back she told me about how her friends would get married without an engagement ring and that the ring was just a show of engagement and wasn’t really needed for any ceremonies. To them, that’s money in bank rather then a ring in a box after their wedding. I can dig it.

Now, this of course made me feel like shit. (1) Because I really didn’t know we were engaged and (2) because I felt that she felt I didn’t want to get it in the first place. Being from “the West” I am use to the tradition of doing the whole, getting on a knee and “,make me the happiest man,” stuff so I feel a bit awkward being engaged and not having done anything, just acknowledging the fact that we are. Still, it feels good to say my fiancé. Woot!

As of today, the marriage checklist is coming down to me taking a trip to base legal and then me turning in my completed packet to my Commanding Officer. The hard work is done, now its just a few steps away. My plan is to get legally married now so we don’t have to worry about doing that when I get back off of ship. This takes some tension off of our shoulders and allows us to do the fun stuff when I get back like the party and ceremonies. Now that the engagement ring surprise isn’t going to happen, I’m going to have to pull a rabbit out of the hat or something, but don’t worry, I have a few cards up my sleeves for her.
