Coming from a few hardcore Marine units, the new environment I find myself in is a big change. My first 4 years in the Marine Corps was filled with exercises, deployments, missions, intense physical training, mental test and a lot of stress on endurance. That is the best way I can define it for you who aren’t what I am. But now,I feel more civilianized then anything.

I work in a section that deals with the “white” gear of the Bases on island. White means it is civilian gear vice green which is military gear. So for instance, a PRC-119 (a radio) is considered green; the new Motorola Satellite Trackers are considered white. Get it? My task during the day is just requesting these items. No sweat compared to my old job. And, I work with MLCs, Master Labor Contract workers; basically just local nationals who work on base.

It is quite fun because they are a lot more polite then working with Marines. Here are a few things they don’t do that Marines would.

  • Talk back
  • Insert 5 curse words into the sentence “I am tired.”
  • Bitch about everything
  • Dip snuff and leave bottles everywhere
  • Act childish

Things are looking nice and easy here. And with no real deployments available to the unit, my chances of going back out to Iraq are slim to none. So all in all, I think I am making out good on this last term of my Marine Corps career. Just sit back, relax, save, and count the days till I get out. But I’ll be plenty busy with time, thanks to the baby.
