Just so I don’t forget. I had trouble, almost to the breaking point, trying to get my skycaps working in Ubuntu. Compiz is the sugar that makes Ubuntu so nice looking and to be able to customize every aspect of it….its a designer’s dream. Here is the problem most people encounter when trying to get their custom skycap image working.

The picture size may not exceed the maximum texture size your graphic card is capable of. You can find the max. texture size this way:

xvinfo | grep max

So if the answer is 1024 you need to resize a picture of 2048×1024 to 1024×512 in order to use it as a skydome picture.

So if your skycap isn’t working, this is probably the issue. Thanks Wicca @ Ubuntu Forums!
